Assistant Professor of Music
Barbara Cockerham is a native of Metairie, La., and is married to Ronnie Cockerham. They have two adult children, Ashley and Aimee.
Cockerham teaches voice, piano lab, music appreciation and music technology courses. She opened the first private group piano studio in the Cenla area many years ago where she taught group and private piano lessons, private voice lessons, Suzuki piano lessons, and the Kindermusik curriculum. Cockerham has published articles on group piano teaching and the use of technology in music. She has also given presentations at Louisiana Music Teachers Association state conventions and at Glorieta Baptist Conference Center in New Mexico. She is a state certified teacher of piano and served as the technology chair for Louisiana Music Teachers for a decade. She has served as an adjudicator in many areas of the state.
Cockerham is a member of the National Association of Teacher’s of Singing. She was the state winner for female vocalist for the National Federation of Music Clubs. She was also winner of the Young Artist Award in Voice and performed with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. Cockerham performed several scenes with the Boris Goldovsky Opera Institute. She has also performed locally in faculty recitals, keyboard extravaganzas, and church related events.
