Biography

David E. Culp teaches Management and Marketing courses and comes to Louisiana College after a distinguished 35 year career with a Fortune 500 company.  Growing in job responsibilities, he practiced in real life what he now teaches in his business classes.  Hiring, firing, strategic planning, capital budgets, management information systems, salary administration, marketing, and customer relationships were in his various area of responsibilities.  Upon retirement he sought to use his vast knowledge to help others which led him into higher education and, ultimately, to Louisiana College.  

David introduced a social media marketing course to the division, a senior level advanced marketing course that focuses on the integration of platforms such as FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.  He has instituted the use of Twitter in his classes for such things as attendance, pop-quizzes, and class communication. Under his leadership and with the help of the Chair of the Business Department has added a Social Media Minor and a senior level class specifically for Social Media Marketing (MG485) to the curriculum.   

He coordinates senior students’ participation in the International Business Strategy Game, using a software program that is used globally in business capstone courses and MBA programs.  Students work in teams and simulate operating a tennis shoe company as a multinational corporation.  They utilize what they have learned in their business classes to generate a company business strategy for ten years.  They compete against teams of their classmates for market share and are judged on their company’s performance in key performance indicators. Several of our teams over the years have placed in the top 100 internationally.  In spring 2013 over 4,100 teams participated in the competition.  

To aid in teaching small business entrepreneurship he has started two small businesses to gain knowledge of running a small business.  His latest small business is a social media marketing company.   

He currently serves as an assistant professor of business administration and advisor for the LC Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society, and is the holder of the Hubert and Madolene Reding Endowed Professorship.
