Dr. Don Shipley, Sr.
Chair, Division of Allied Health, Assistant Professor of Allied Health
Dr. Don M. Shipley, Sr. is the Director of the new Allied Health Program at Louisiana College. He retired from a private dental practice of 37 years in Waco, Texas to accept the position.
Dr. Shipley graduated from Baylor University with a B.S., and then continued with post graduate studies in biology before entering dental school. He graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and Central Texas Dental Society. He served in various offices in the Central Texas Dental Society, including President of the Society.
Even though Dr. Shipley’s vocation has been dentistry, his avocation has been teaching. He has always enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge and imparting knowledge to students. He has taught Sunday School classes to college students, single adults, young marrieds, and adults at Highland Baptist Church where he and his family were members.
His passion has always been his family and he has sought to make a godly family rather than a career his goal. A favorite Bible verse of his is III John 4: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (the truth being Jesus Christ) Dr. Shipley appreciates the vision and mission of LC and is excited to be a part of that vision. He sees the new Allied Health Program as a means of teaching and placing dedicated health care workers into the workplace in Central Louisiana to help meet physical needs of people even as Christ did when He was on earth. Dr. Shipley looks forward to being a part of Louisiana College’s “having no greater joy than to hear that its students are walking in the Truth.”
Dr. Shipley and his wife Narciada have two children, one being Dr. Don M. Shipley, Jr., Chair, Division of Humanities, LC. Their daughter and family live in the Washington, D.C. area.
