Professor of Mathematics

David R. Simmons holds the Carolyn Adams Dawson Professorship in Mathematics.  He holds the rank of Professor of Mathematics, and has taught at LC since 1974.  Dr. Simmons has the honor of being the senior (longest serving) member of the LC faculty.

In addition to his teaching mastery, he continues to pursue research interests such as free objects in categories, the parameterization of surfaces in space, factors of Fibonacci numbers, finite topological spaces, gravitational simulations by computer, and the density of rational numbers through mediants.

Dr. Simmons is also an avid computer programmer, mostly in FORTRAN and Pascal.  His ongoing personal computer projects include: a class grade system, a text editor program, a laser printer driver, a package to show multiple VGA display colors, and a file finder utility. These are all written in Pascal.

He is currently Minister of Music at Esler Baptist Church in Pineville.  He has been a Gideon since 1988, serving on the state cabinet of the Louisiana Gideons Association as Memorial Bible Coordinator, Scripture Coordinator, and Area Director.

David Simmons has been married to Judith since 1961; they have three children and six grandchildren.
