Dean/Professor, School of Nursing
Recipient: Coughlin-Saunders Foundation Chair in Nursing
I began my nursing career in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Singing river Hospital in Pascagoula, MS. I was also staff and charge nurse in the Emergency Department. I spent two years as an industrial nurse at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS.
I was a nurse educator at William Carey University for 24 years beginning as an instructor and working my way up through the ranks to Professor of Nursing. I have taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels, but I find that I find teaching undergraduate nursing students more satisfying. I enjoy watching students evolve into caring, competent nurses. In August of 2015, I was given the opportunity to serve God and the nursing profession as the Dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health at LC. I am a member of the American Nurses Association, the Louisiana Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
During my time away from LC, I most enjoy spending time with my husband, Alex, and my two children, Niki and Will as well as well as my son-in-law, David. I like to read, play video games, and spend time with friends. I also crochet for the prayer shawl ministry at my church.
