The goal of the admissions process is to ensure the selection of students who exhibit both personal and academic readiness for the technical portion of the PTA program and who consistently demonstrate a commitment to physical therapist assistant as their chosen profession.

The selection process is outlined below:

• Application Review: Candidates for the PTA program must submit a completed application to the PTA Program Director by October 23, 2008. Applications will be available in the PTA department. All applications will be reviewed by the Admissions staff to assure all minimum requirements have been met and required documentation completed.

• Interviews: Interviews of qualified applicants will be scheduled with the program’s Admissions Committee in at least two months prior to entering the technical courses phase of the program. The interview process consists of individual candidate interviews with the Admissions Committee. Candidate’s writing ability will be judged by completing a spontaneous short narrative on a topic related to a career as a PTA.

• Admissions Selection: Selection of students for the PTA program by the Admissions committee is based on information in the application process (academic history, level of exposure to the PT clinical setting, and oral/written communication skills discerned from the interview process).

• Notification of Committee Decisions: All applicants will be notified in writing of the Admission Committee’s decision as soon as the selection is completed. Applicants not accepted into the program will be provided an opportunity to meet with a member of the Admissions committee for advising on ways to improve their potential for admission in the future.
