Larry Jeane
Class of 1970
 
Larry Jeane Louisiana College 1970Louisiana College 1970 graduate, Larry Jeane, is a well-recognized figure in the State of Louisiana and particularly in Central Louisiana. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and sociology at Louisiana College, Larry Jeane received the MA in Criminal Justice Administration at Northeast Louisiana University.

Larry is currently serving a third term as Pineville City Marshal, having held that office since 1997. Larry has also served as an adjunct instructor of Criminal Justice at Louisiana College in addition to years of working in the criminal justice and public safety and corrections field.

In addition to his professional achievements, Larry Jeane is the recipient of numerous honors and awards for his service to local and state civic organizations. Larry has served as secretary-treasurer and Vice President of the Louisiana City Marshal’s Association, has served on the Board of Directors of the Renaissance Home for Youth, was a member and President of the Pineville Kiwanis Club, has been Vice Chairman of the Louisiana State Police Commission and the North American and Louisiana Association of Wardens and Superintendents.

Larry Jeane was awarded three commendations for service to the people as a Corrections Warden and was named recipient of the Charles Dunbar Career Civil Service Award in 1990. Larry is a member of the Board of Directors of the Rapides Association for Retarded Citizens and also is a Master Mason.

Larry has worked tirelessly promoting athletics at his alma mater. He has served on the Wildcat Athletic Association Board of Directors and is a member of the Louisiana College WAA Sports Hall of Fame. Larry is genuinely known as an ambassador for Louisiana College throughout the community. His generosity to the college includes many, many man hours devoted to both football and baseball.

Larry is married to Johanne Penczek, also a 1970 Louisiana College graduate. They have two children, Paul Joseph Jeane, and Joan Marie Jeane Scott, as well as three grandchildren, Victoria Ann, Isabella Grace, and Nikolas Walter Scott.

Larry Jeane has been a resident of Pineville, Louisiana for 40 years and is a member of Sacred Heart Church where he serves as a member of the Parish Council and the Finance Committee.


 


 

Donna Burnley Cavanaugh
Class of 1977
 
Donna Burnley Cavanaugh Louisiana College 1977Donna Burnley Cavanaugh attended Louisiana College from 1974-1976. While studying at Louisiana College, Donna pursued a degree in Elementary Education. Donna began her career in San Antonio, TX, as a special education classroom teacher.

Donna has achieved wide recognition both locally and nationally for her efforts to promote the organization, ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation.” As Director of the ThinkFirst Louisiana State Chapter and Training Center, Donna has trained health educators and individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries to be effective chapter directors and injury prevention education speakers. These speakers visit schools and organizations in the community to speak to students and families about making safe choices to prevent traumatic injuries to themselves. Donna’s devotion to injury prevention goes far beyond her community and state: she has served several terms on the Think First National Injury Prevention Foundation Board of Directors, has served as Chairperson for the State Chapter Director’s Subcommittee and has been an active committee member on at least two committees per year over the past 10 years. Donna has spent countless hours on the ThinkFirst project and she does this with energy, enthusiasm, humor and a serving spirit.

Donna’s loyalty to her alma mater is reflected in the amount of time and energy she has devoted to Louisiana College throughout the years since her time studying here. Donna has served on the Alumni Executive Board, is a member of the Shreveport Alumni Chapter, has graciously volunteered her home for alumni meetings and has assisted the admissions office in recruiting students from the Northwest Louisiana area.

Donna and her husband, David, are actively involved in the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and the Shreveport Opera. She is a member of The Shreveport Symphony Guild, the mayor’s Council for Citizens with Disabilities, is active with the Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group, is a SAFE Kids director, a member of MADD, serves on the Caddo Parish Children and Youth Planning Board and is a sustaining member of the Junior League. She has been a member of the Shreveport Medical Society Alliance and currently serves as its President.

Donna and David Cavanaugh are members of First Baptist Church in Shreveport where they are co-teachers of a Sunday School College and Career Class. Donna’s husband, David Cavanaugh, also a graduate of Louisiana College, was named a Distinguished Alumnus in 1996-1997.


 


 

John David Murphy
Class of 1979
 
John David MurphyDistinguished as a dedicated Christian counselor to youth and adults, an outstanding churchman and family man, John David Murphy has touched countless lives in fulfilling the mission for which God called him.

J.D. graduated cum laude from Louisiana College in 1981 with a degree in Church Music. While attending Louisiana College, he was the recipient of the 1977 Presidential Scholarship Award. He earned his Master of Arts in Religious Education with a major in Counseling at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in 1984 where he graduated magna cum laude. Since receiving his master’s degree, J.D. has pursued a career in counseling families and victims of alcohol and drug abuse. J.D. has worked as a clinical counselor at Family Service Agency, a minister of counseling and Director of Support Group Ministries at Alpine First Baptist Church, and is presently serving as a family therapist at Red River Treatment Center.

Along with his counseling career, J.D. has also pursued a career as a registered representative and registered investment advisor for Stewardship Financial Resources in Pineville, Louisiana and Little Rock, AR. and as an agent for New York Life Insurance Company.

J.D. Murphy is and has always been actively involved in church work. Through his church affiliation he uses his skills as a counselor to touch many lives often with little or no compensation. He also serves his church as a Sunday school teacher, finance committee chairman, and plays an active role in the youth and worship leadership teams.

J.D. Strives daily through work, community, and church, to bring others’ lives out of despair and into a greater understanding of their individual purposes in life. He is an avid believer in the value of counseling and treatment and has thereby positively affected the lives of hundreds of people. He accomplishes this while conducting himself in a manner that reflects his values as a caring, empathetic and morally upright individual.

J.D. is married to Janice Murphy and they have two daughters, Heather Murphy Cooksey, and Marissa Nicole Murphy. He has one grandchild, Raegan Joelle Cooksey. John David is dedicated to his family and maintains a Christian image at home as well as at work. J.D. is listed in the Who’s Who Life Member registry.
