Sponsored by the Department of Music, the Louisiana College Chorale is a select group of singers, representing all divisions of the College, who are in constant demand for appearances at conventions, civic functions, schools, and churches. Members are chosen by competitive auditions from the entire student body and represent several academic disciplines.
Dr. Fred Guilbert, professor of music, serves as the Chorale conductor, and Katerina Zaitseva, Artist in Residence is the accompanist.
For more than half a century the Chorale has served Louisiana Baptists through Sunday performances in area churches and tours each semester. Chorale appears annually at the Louisiana Baptist Convention.
Chorale has collaborated with other choral ensembles and regional orchestras on numerous occasions for the presentation of major choral works. The group also takes one international tour every four years. Most recently, their overseas tour took the group to France and Spain in the Spring Semester of 2005.
Chorale’s repertoire consists of a broad range of outstanding choral literature from all style periods through the 20th Century, including a number of tastefully arranged spirituals and sacred anthems, aimed at developing among members and audiences an appreciation of great choral literature while at the same time preparing future performers, directors, and teachers of music.
The Chorale is well known for their flexibility in offering presentations in both the educational realm and the church worship service.
Many of the Chorale alumni are serving in positions of leadership in churches, schools, and colleges around the country and overseas.
