Director for The Center for Calling and Career

Louisiana College is searching for an exceptionally skilled and motivated individual to develop and implement an innovative, highly integrative, and technology-enhanced Calling and Career Center that supports the institution’s mission of preparing graduates for lives of learning, leading, and service. The Director for The Center for Calling and Career serves as the College’s external interface, working with corporations, agencies, and organizations both locally and regionally to establish internships and vocational opportunities for Louisiana College students. The Center provides resources in assisting students with choosing a major, career assessments, internships, graduate school, job searches, job fairs, and resume writing. The Director has a profound esteem for the value and strength of a Christian liberal arts education and is passionate about helping students identify calling and how it relates to their career life. The Director of the Center for Calling and Career assists students in career/major exploration, leads workshops relating to resume building, networking, job search, interviewing, and helps students with connecting their time at LC to a successful and satisfying career. The position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement and Enrichment and is under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Support Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight for The Center for Calling and Career and manages the daily operation to deliver relevant and effective career services for students at all levels.
  • Conducts employer visits and leads efforts to build partnerships with local employers to provide the best possible internship/job shadowing possibilities, service-learning opportunities, and career opportunities for students.
  • Stays current on economic and work trends and provides this information to students and the LC community while adapting services accordingly.
  • Maintains current knowledge of career, labor market and job search trends.
  • Represents the College at various meetings ranging from chambers of commerce, economic development, jurisdictional organizations, educational organizations, and development partnerships to make the service-area business community aware of programs and opportunities available through LC.
  • Proactively participates in the identification, recruitment, and relationship management of employers through meetings, site visits, online networking, event attendance, Handshake, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Initiates and promotes Handshake for job and internship searching and as a recruiting tools and provides education on Handshake as needed for employers and students.
  • Engages, supports, and empowers students to discover, create, and implement their career and future educational plans.
  • Develops and promotes student engagement in areas related to career exploration, career planning, internships and experiential learning-related opportunities.
  • Creates opportunities for students to connect with employers in order to learn insider information about the world of work and to increase the likelihood of becoming gainfully employed upon graduation.
  • Attends and participates in professional development conferences, state agency meetings, workshops, seminars, and job fairs as required.
  • Participates in campus committees to represent The Center and advance its mission and goals.
  • Coordinates the Center’s internal and external marketing and communication and  collaborates with Communications and Marketing to refine Louisiana College’s Calling and Career Center website.
  • Represents the Center for Calling and Career during college-wide events, such as Orientation, Preview Day, and Admission recruitment visits.
  • Works closely with supervisors to develop strategic and operational goals that are consistent and align with LC’s missions and goals.
  • Establishes metrics/measures for success and assumes accountability.
  • Participates in the assessment process to measure and report on goals and services and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensures services provided are consistent with The Center's goals and institutional efforts, including those on retention, completion, and educational quality.
  • Coordinates, markets, and facilitates in-person and virtual workshops, class presentations, and events, such as the annual career fairs and site visits.
  • Creates and presents informational and hands-on workshops to student groups, classes, and College events on career related topics including but not limited to the following: choosing a major, choosing a career, group assessment interpretation, finding an internship or job, resume writing, and interviewing. Some presentations will involve an evening and/or weekend time commitment
  • Connects students with employers' external internships, service learning, and other experiential learning opportunities that are consistent with students' career goals and interests and College policy
  • Administers, scores, and interprets career inventories and assessments to help students in their career and education planning. (personality type software).
  • Provides on-site career planning assistance for students through individual appointments, research directives, and regular workshops.
  • Works with academic departments, deans, chairs, program directors, and faculty to help foster connections to employers and to expand experiential and employment opportunities for students
  • Assists students in connecting to employers through campus interviews, job listings, and maintaining the website with employer information, student resumes, and student worker job postings, and more.
  • Helps students develop and refine skills in resume, cover letter, and application essay writing; online and in-person networking; social media etiquette; interviewing; professional etiquette; and job search skills through the coordination and delivery of individual coaching sessions, workshops, mock interviews, events, and other programs.
  • Identifies, implements, and provides oversight for an electronic portfolio for students to showcase their experiential learning opportunities
  • Tracks and reports on student/alumni coaching sessions, workshops, events, and other programs for data collection and student learning and operational goal assessments.
  • Follows up with students/recent alumni to understand and identify areas for ongoing support.
  • Teach orientation and other courses as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education administration, college student development, counseling, human resources or related field.
  • Two to five years of experience in career counseling/development, student development, higher education, recruiting or human resources.
  • Demonstrated success in career development
  • Experience supervising and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of student and career development theory
  • Experience with leading and managing department, division, or organization-wide projects or programs.
  • Experience administering and interpreting strengths and/or personality tests
  • Demonstrated expertise with career advising, coaching, and mentoring that lead to effective, measurable and creative career development.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

Executive Assistant to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs

Louisiana College invites applications for the full-time position of Executive Assistant to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA). The position reports to the Provost and VPAA, works closely with issues related to academic affairs, and works independently performing a wide range of complex and confidential administrative and clerical support duties. This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to provide information and service to a wide range of internal and external contacts. The Executive Assistant is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the Provost/VPAA and requires the ability to anticipate needs, think critically, and offer solutions to problems with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This is a 12-month position to begin as soon as the position is filled.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs duties independently and exercises a high degree of initiative in determining the approach/action;

Exhibits a high degree of confidentiality;

Provides an advanced level of work including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;

Gathers information requiring a determination and evaluation of sources, compiles data, and prepares reports;

Responds to requests for information from the Provost and other College administrators, which may require in-depth research of College policies and procedures;

Prepares all full-time and adjunct contracts and tracks them through the approval and distribution process;

Prepares payroll requests for all adjunct faculty, faculty overload, DIS and Internship courses, and other exceptions to salaried teaching;

Prepares materials and handles correspondence for meetings, which can include sensitive and non-routine matters;

Attends Faculty Meetings, Academic Affairs Committee Meetings, and other meetings, and serves as recorder and composer of minutes and distributes them to all parties involved;

Maintains and assists in auditing faculty personnel files as well as maintains all files kept in the Academic Affairs office;

Handles academic job postings as well as receives and processes applications for postings as well as schedules interviews;

Assists with preparing items for the Academic Affairs Committee and the Board of Trustees, including Tenure and Promotion materials;

Assists in coordinating, planning, executing, and managing academic functions;

Assists with gathering academic information for IPEDS;

Oversees the process for Deans List certificates;

Coordinates requisitions for all academic divisions and prepares all requestions for expenses out of the VPAA Office;

Makes travel arrangements for Provost and various incoming visitors, including candidates for academic positions, related to Academic Affairs;

Schedules all interviews for academic positions;

Consistently monitors office inventories and anticipates needed supplies or services and orders supplies as needed;

Writes and edits letters, reports, emails, memos, and other related documents from rough drafts, corrected copy, and detailed materials; proofreads completed materials;

Supervises office student workers;

Maintains and updates handbooks and manuals per the Provost’s requests; and

Manages the faculty evaluation process.

Preferred: Three years of experience at the college or university level is strongly preferred

Administrative Support Specialist

Louisiana College is seeking applicants for an Administrative Support Specialist for the PTA Program.  The Louisiana College Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program is a two-year program in which graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree, eligibility to become licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant, and the opportunity to become part of an exciting and rewarding profession. The Administrative Support Specialist performs clerical and related duties requiring: receiving incoming phone calls and guests in the office; scheduling appointments; channeling inquiries and paperwork to other offices as needed; working carefully with confidential and sensitive material; and assisting the office employees in other matters as needed.

Skills Required: This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple issues and projects in a fast-paced environment; must have knowledge of office operations and computer skills; must be able to create documents, spreadsheets, organizational charts, and reports using a variety of software products (MS Word, Excel); must employ excellent written and grammatical skills; and must possess a high degree of discretion, judgment, tact, and poise.  Knowledge of CAPTE standards and accreditation is preferred. Director of Mental Health Counseling and First-Year Experience Program

Louisiana College is seeking an energetic and creative leader to serve as the Director of Mental Health Counseling and the First-Year Experience Program who is deeply invested in working with freshman students’ transition to college, has a deep understanding of student development theory, has a strong commitment to student growth and development, and is dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and well-being. The successful candidate is pro-active in addressing student issues and concerns and recognizes the connection between counseling, determining students’ needs, and guiding students to the right department, person, service, resource, or co-curricular event to help them with personal, social, and mental well-being in order to navigate college successfully.

Serving as a bridge between academic and student affairs, the Director works with partners across the College and draws upon national best practices and emerging trends in student transition, retention, and effective interactions. The Director of the Mental Health Counseling and the First-year Experience is a key staff member within Student Support Services and collaborates with the Director of Residence Life and Engagement and the Director of the Success Center to plan and create ongoing opportunities and experiences to assist in the academic and social transition, particularly the integration of first-year students to the Louisiana College community. The Director provides mental health counseling services and facilitates sessions, workshops, and presentations on academic behaviors, self-regulation, resilience, and other related topics and may supervise student counseling interns under the direction of LC’s Field Director of the MSW program.

This is a 12-month full-time position to begin as soon as the position is filled.

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. College counseling experience.
  2. Utilizing and incorporating technology to support the care of students; telemental health experience.
